Dallas Buyer’s Club

Film

Mr. McConaughey strikes again! I thought we had seen the best this man had to offer when I saw Mud, however I must recant that claim, and abruptly replace it with his stellar performance in Dallas Buyers Club. Another noteworthy performance came from Mr. Jared Leto, who is no stranger to well played characters, however much like his counterpart, went above and beyond for this film. The story is incredibly well written, something I simply cannot get enough of. Believability, is key in all films, but even more so in a story of this magnitude, as it absolutely pulls you in. From the pacing, to the cinematography, to the wardrobe, there is nothing to dislike here. Watching Mcconaughey’s character evolve from hap hazard drug addict to activist, is truly a thing of beauty.

I had hoped after seeing both Leto and McConaughey’s extreme physical transformations, that their efforts would not be in vain, and they most certainly were not. At first I found myself in complete shock at McConaughey’s physical state, it’s almost disturbing, and I worried that it would distract me from the film. However, with a performance as poignant as this, it’s impossible not to invest wholeheartedly into these characters. After years of tongue and cheek comedies, I am so happy to see this man bring some serious acting chops to the table. I was thoroughly entertained and floored by their performances, go see this film!
